Kit the commuter gets cultured

Went to see Reuben Guthrie at Belvoir last night with Anna, Guy and Lachlan. Funny in parts, but also depressing comments about the isolation of modern humans. During the post theatre discussion, Anna said that she wanted to have a notebook in which she would ask a person to draw their impression of a map of Sydney. For her, the north shore would be marked "here be dragons". I am embarrassed to say that the first thing that popped into my mind was: motorways. The second was: public transport routes. What would yours be?

Anna : Don't Stoppard ...

Went to see "Travesties" at the Sydney Theatre Company and enjoyed it thoroughly. Dada-ism meets the Importance of Being Earnest with a dose of commie-rhetoric for good measure.

Best line of the play? Lenin talking of the 1905 and 1917 Russian revolutions :

"To lose one revolution my be regarded as a misfortune, to lose both looks like carelessness"

Kit needs to read the fine print

I went to see Bill Bailey yesterday. Except that I thought it was at the Sydney Theatre (like last time), and not the State Theatre. I only found out after having dinner at the Lord Nelson, and with 20 minutes to go to the show. Oops!

Becstarr : Revue at Riverside

Off to the Riverside Theatre at Parramatta to see the annual Wharf Revue with Mum, Jess, Tim and Joel. Excellent show, though perhaps more surprising was the lovely dinner beforehand and the generally nice atmosphere. Parramatta seems to be getting more and more "liveable". They do seem to have a particularly good mayor at the moment, in terms of encouraging the arts , a sense of community & involvement and so on. Nice work Parra.

3 x Duck & Disappointing Play

I've had duck in a meal for three days in a row by accident. YL's party with peking duck in pancakes, sang choy bow and the duck noodles on Saturday night. A sampled wholemeal duck pancake from the Dank St Festival on Sunday, and Duck Pizza from the Australian Hotel. Dinner tonight? Not duck!

Went to see Riflemind". Sold out season, only standing room tickets available on the night. Hugo Weaving as the lead character; Jeremy Sims & Susie Porter also. I couldn't put it any better than the little old lady sitting next to me, when I heard her say during intermission:"If I were on my own, I'd go home. It's rubbish theatre." I found the characters intensely annoying and disagreeable, and only saw that there could be a human side to "John" (Hugo Weaving) at two points in the piece.

Saw Sydney Theatre production of Don’s Party. Haven’t read the play or seen the movie. It was a lot of fun, and it looked like the almost-full-house enjoyed themselves.

Evelyn - Still hanging onto the Festival

I'm determined to get more out of the festival while its still going, work not withstanding. So Monday, we went and saw Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, Thursday we took Dan to the Heresy Project - even funnier than the first time, and last night we went and saw John Waters: This Filthy World at the film festival.
