Shoshe - Harvest!

Over the weekend I thinned out the indoor lettuce crop, and we had miniature salads. The remaining lettuces have grown impressively over the past few days.

And my GI doctor has me eating plastic (literally).

Is that one of those "air grow" indoor lettuce herb gardens?

Nope, it's all homemade! We got grow lights from the hydroponics hippie, wireframe industrial shelving from Home Depot, and a mylar blanket from Target, and set up a greenhouse-y thing in our dining room. The lettuce plants are in small pots of pro-mix, and are doing well. I'm thinking of planting more so I can have a decent lettuce crop on the balcony come Spring, but the end-of-winter frost date here is in over 2 months :(

The winter-greenhouse lights are plugged into a timer that calculates sunrise and sunset times, so the lights have been on for longer and longer each day. The orchid and the little bay tree started growing new leaves this week :)

Is the plastic tasty? =)

I want to hear more about eating plastic. What type of plastic? And why??

No, the plastic is not tasty. It's an "orange" flavoured powder that I need to mix with ~250mL of liquid and drink twice a day. I generally mix it with 500mL of thick juice -- orange juice, grapefruit juice, guava nectar, pear nectar, mango nectar, apricot nectar... anything to hide the texture, which is gritty. It's a prescription called Cholestyramine that's supposed to help me digest fat, but doesn't seem to be working yet :(
