Becstarr : A super-productive Caturday!

Joel's gone sailing for the weekend and left to my own devices in the house, I have surprised myself by having a super-productive start to the weekend!

I have not only but also: swept and mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors; done three loads of washing including a backpack, sports shoes and the shower curtain; used the final rinse grey-water from each wash on the lawn; sourced and fitted water aerators to the kitchen & bathroom taps; cleared several GB of space on J's laptop; met Karinne for a catch-up date over chocolate and churros in Glebe; and done a massive fruit & veg shops at the wonderful Harris Farm.

Woo!

Becstarr : Marrickville rain biking

Biked to the Sustainability festival in Steel Park, Marrickville (just on the Cooks River) twice... once on Saturday, a day early (oops) and then for real on Sunday. Plenty of manageable hills, so I guess it was good exercise at least!

The festival was small (clearly in its first few years), which suited me fine. No chai tent (wha?) but there was an indigenous food stand with kangaroo & croc burgers. Plenty of families and various freebies and workshops. Unfortunately the rain then hit and our attempt to bike home between showers was a wetter venture than I was hoping for. Urgh!

Becstarr : A spring in my step

Went to a workshop / focus group to help the City of Sydney council and UNSW's Faculty of the Built Environment plan their next Watershed workshop series, and build an education tool for other local councils. It was a great evening! Brainstorming and discussing with a bunch of other people with similar questions and priorities was an unexpected amount of fun.

Becstarr: Moth whirlwinds

Dinner with Dave and a big walk in Sydney Park through dusk and a whirlwind of moths. Major topic of discussion was the permeability of the "made" world to the natural world. Wei (who's from Taiwan) finds it incredibly disconcerting-- maybe in Australia, with the bogongs, spiders, the possibility of snakes in the backyard, and the often intemperate climate, we're more used to it? I like this permeability and find it reassuring, even if it is uncomfortable.

Dave is still not convinced about compost, though-- he claims due to childhood traumas. "I understand the concept that dealing with your own waste is good, but...". One day I will convince him! He also refuses to look at the worm farm. Pff.
