I must have seen Ghostbusters at least a dozen times over the past 25 years; maybe more. But I only just yesterday noticed that there is a packet of Staypuft marshmallows in Dana's kitchen.

I've really got to work on my observation skills.

Anna : Why do vampires suck?

After months of Twilight, True Blood (the show and the books) and then flash backs to Lost Boys I am left wondering, how can vampire stories have so much appeal while at the same time sucking SO MUCH??!?

Guess I'm off to watch Near Dark again ... cry little sister ...

YL - new Star Trek movie

No surprise but I did love it in all it's bright shininess. =)

Ben - Quis custidied quod qu - whatever

Saw the Watchmen today. Mixed feelings. I think they did the best they could with the central plot, and some of the the performances were wonderful. The action scenes were too slick and choreographed, the costumes didn't have that DIY look that they do in the book and - faithful though it was - the main plot really loses a lot from the absence of the subplots.

Anyway, upshot was I went to the movies and don't now feel ripped off. This is at least a minor triumph.

... where he's standing on the top of the building. Well that building is the Empire State Building. BUT the top of it looks nothing like the Empire State Building ...



This has been annoying me for some time, enough to distract my attention from time to time but apparently not enough to take the time to find out what's going on. Then today I go to a Metafilter post about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and I see this ...



So what has happened is that in 1933 when they made "King Kong" the top of the Empire State Building did look like that, it was a mooring post for airships, and that the extra bit that obscures the art deco spire is a broadcast tower added in 1953.

It's like this tiny bit of my brain that was constantly worrying about this conundrum has been freed up for other things ... and for that I guess I should give thanks ;)

Was really good or at least I couldn't stop laughing. Robert Downey Jr. was brilliant.

Anna : Middling Sickness

Been feeling slightly iffy for about a week now, the stresses of the last 3 months walking my body slowly towards flu town. A sneeze here, a long tired afternoon there, and everyday it gets harder to get out of bed.

My question for the week is : How can Doug Liman films be so good yet so absolutely forgettable at the same time? I'm looking at you "Bourne Identity"

Shannon - The Long Weekend Draws to a Close

So this Thanksgiving weekend not only served up a delicious roast chicken dinner (followed by pavlova) but a chance to get some serious sleeping-in done, our discovering that Old Navy is awesome, and us finally catching up on some movies - Eastern Promises is great if you can sit through the brutality, and 3:10 to Yuma is officially my favourite film of the year; See it!!!

Eugene - Home Song Stories

Went to see Home Song Stories today and was quite impressed. I have to admit that I didn't rcognise the Joan Chen of Twin Peaks until her makeup was off. Having a browse through her imdb entry, little did I realise how much of a presence she had in 80's tv.

Anyway, this was a consolation prize since the original plan was to walk to Bondi and see Stardust. Maybe tomorrow.

Becstarr: Media galore

Took pseudoephedrine in the morning and spent the day processing mpgs to flvs and wavs to mp3s obsessively. Trying to calm down with the aid of Lowenbrau and Look Both Ways.

Ummed and awed about what new mobile phone to get. Finally saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Sad today cause Elora is already six-months old and we haven't met her in person yet.

Anna : Home Sick, Serenity and Chicken Cooking

Home sick again, slept until 12 and then watched Serenity to round off my mid-year Nathan Fillion kick (watched the ill fated "Drive" last weekend). Now got a chicken roasting in a made up recipe the oven, it smells good already!
