Three days of boxing, kickboxing followed by more boxing has left me with unfortunate DOMS in my legs and on either side of my elbows. It hurts to straighten my arms and my walk has a distinctive waddle to it ...
Who said the gym was good for you??!?

Anna : Done myself a harm
Oh noes! All the good luck that has been coming my way for the last month or so has finally been evened out, last night at boxing I felt a "pop" and it turns out I've got "Tennis Leg". I've torn some of the fibers in my left calf and can't walk. Have been to the physio and it's not too serious and I should be able to walk unaided in 10 days or so. TO THE COUCH!

Shoshe - Snow
Yesterday+today was the first real snowstorm we've had. We've had snow, but this was the first decent fall -- probably about 20cm or so. Last night was beautiful. Everything was white (including the sky, even though the full moon was a week ago). But the snow removal was much worse than it's been -- the little uni snowplows hadn't been through by the time I left choir practice (about 9:30pm), and they haven't done much salting at all.
In other news, my classmates and I are trying to be good about going to the gym. We call it FAATS: Fabulous Astronomy Athletic Training and Science (we read journal articles so we don't feel like we're wasting time that could be spent studying). If you're a student here, it only costs $145 per year to join the gym (including access to all facilities and classes)! I tried the rowing machine for the first time yesterday -- it hurt a little to breathe today because my lungs and diaphragm are trying to let me inhale, but my abdominal muscles don't think anyone has any business making them move (it feels remotely like having cracked ribs).

Anna : Tired
Awesome boxing session on Wednesday (Paul brought torso sized pads and for the last round we paired up and then put our shoulders together and PUSHED!) and an early start on Thursday let me feeling pretty tired. My boss caught me having a big old yawn and commented that I looked exhausted. By 10.30 I had come down with chronic presentee-ism and decided that I might as well go home sick and catch some "ZZZ"s. Three hour nap and then a follow up 10 hours has left me feeling only vaguely human.
Let's hear it for Friday!

YL - More fires, gym class, making new friends is kinda bizzare
Ok well everyone knows Broadway shopping center caught on fire. Big news at the hospital. Everyone looked at me and went "will you be able to go home this time"? Lol. Hilarious. I swear I am in fight/flight mode still. Half expecting the world to come crashing down in a physical sense.
Back at the gym now. Still dont think I can do 6.30am classes (kudos Kim) or boxing (kudos Anna & Joe). But working on it. Attended BodyPump which was good. Went to BodyJam and was totally 2 left footed for half of it. Also went swimming at Coogee Sun afternoon after dropping parents off at airport, planning another beach thing this weekend.
Making new friends is kind of bizzare. Especially doctor ones. You guys know a fair bit of the stuff I've been through. We've got history together. You guys know I'm crazy. These new people ... dont know me. Should / Can I hide this craziness? Is it even possible anyway. Maybe it's too late. I dont think I could be anything else but what I am ... and what I am ... is it a bad thing anyway? Maybe they're just normal people. Is that also even possible? I'm sure you guys dont judge me ... do you? will they? Questions without answers.
But hey at least they arent looking at me sideways like the med school students! Or looking down on me. Well not that I can tell ...

YL - meeting people & gym
Like Evelyn, I've rejoined the gym. Managed to fanagle some deal which suits so yay. John at Noel Martin rocks. Went to Pump today. Dave was his usual energetic self! I'm not up to doing 2 classes back to back like the old days. Ugh. Achey.
Orbit Lounge, lvl 47, Australia Square = rotates + awesome view. Glad I went to the "welcoming interns to Westmead" drinks thing. Re-met some people from orientation. Rubbed shoulders & tried to find out means to further my future career. Met some fun people. Turns out, Westmead doctors know how to party. So drinks over, went to Jacksons on George for dancing lol. New experiences I must say. Stayed out till 5am. Hmm.

Evelyn: one step forward, two steps back
So belatedly healthy new year - joined the gym last night. However my supposed gym buddy encouraged us to celebrate the fact by not using the gym and instead eating hot chocolate brownies with vanilla ice-cream.

Anna : Another Brick in the Wall
Was _definitively_ productive today. Trying to catch up and clean up after the busy shambles I became at the end of last year running after my big ITIL vs ICT Training Project.
Highlight of the day was this morning in yoga class when I made the transition between Child's Pose with arms stretched forward and Cobra Pose without face planting OR belly flopping!
Link of the day! (Mostly SFW but does contain underwear clad bottoms) : http://www.supernaturale.com/articles.html?id=70

Anna : Yay Punching!
Too many people and too few bags has meant weeks without punching something. Well that all changed yesterday! 12 x 1 minute rounds with 6 rounds of 8 pushups and 6 rounds of 8 situps and about 35 seconds rest between each set. Finish it off with some punching above the head and 2 x 30 seconds on the bags and you a recipe for KICKING ARSE! I do believe I may STILL be high on the endorphins :)

Anna : Getting better at getting off the floor
New gym program with "Extra Pushup Action" is totally working. First set of pushups no longer feels like death. Just don't ask me about the following sets.

Anna : Work, gym, sleep, gym ...
Good day at work then off to boxing. After two very hard sessions last week we had a more managable session last night ( Joe looked like death at the end of it so he may disagree ). Finished the session off with some crouching, working on undoing years of rowing induced shortening of the hamstrings and perfecting my sq'wahtting technique so that I can fully enjoy the drugs that Bec assures me are located in the thighs! Yoga this morning with more hamstring stretching and more sq'waht, working moving the tension from my knees back into my butt where it should be.

Shannon - Sooo tired
I was so tired yesterday and managed to wind up over an hour late for work. Even though it was a hard slog during the day, I still somehow made my pilates class. Thank goodness class is literally on the way from my office to the bus-stop, as the dark, cold, rainy days have set in and staying home near the proverbial hearth is the smart thing to do.

Anna : No-Choc-tober Progresses
Taking a break, munching on yummy dried figs, trying to forget the taste of chocolate. Also after being woken at 5am this morning by our down stairs neighbour listening to the radio for 15 minutes I'm pondering the phrase "If you can't beat them, join them" ... I should go to the gym more ... and going to very early clases would get my gym for the day out of the way ... mmmmm figs.

Anna : New Job
Back at work, 2nd day at ICT, names that I have known for years are getting faces to go with them. I have a temporary computer, a phone on order and I've been desk squatting at for the last two days and will have to shift tomorrow when the desks owner comes back to work. On the plus side I am going to take advantage of my new "Gym Adjacent" location and go for a swim this afternoon after work.

Becstarr : Combatting the CSS of the slaughter floor
Students let in to Abattoir site after lecture. Still a few items to fix. Finally sat down and read properly through the diff between visibility and display properties in the CSS spec.... I'm occasionally a bit shocked at how long I keep guesstimating these things.
Best thing I did today was make it to Combat! Class was tough but I worked hard and even almost made it through the new jenga hip-hoppish track! Now that's some fancy footwork.

Anna : Hard Session @ Boxing
The netballers have disappeared so there's less standing around at boxing. Last nights session was HARD!
6 minute warm up, 4 reps of 1 minute on 30 seconds off of squatting/squatting and punching, 6 rounds of circuit stuff (side to sides, push ups and plank and then 10 secs on/10 secs off/10 secs on at the bag). Finishing off with 4 rounds of 30 seconds punching and 1 minute rest.
Cut to the next day, I'm having trouble walking down stairs and someone has inserted an iron rod in the middle of my shoulders.
In other news, made it to yoga but it was the annoying English woman. I can't stand the way she says "Up" ("uhurp"!!?!?!).

Anna : When will I learn
When Paul says "We used to do this on the Nationals team" you leave the room! Sore and tired today but made it to yoga.

Anna : "Hands back to the face, anything else isn't punching, it's ... pretend"
Paul was back in form last night so boxing happened. The class is full of new people, last week it was about 10 new girls who are apparently on the netball team and don't shut up, this week it was a bunch of American guys who had been before but this time brought friends. Our cosy little class is getting a little too cosy.
At the end of the class the guy who runs the Sydney Uni Boxing club announced that there's going to be an amateur fight night in September, including women's demonstration matches, in case anyone wanted to come along to fight or watch. Joe pointed out that it probably wouldn't be much fun getting pummeled in front of a bunch of strangers ... but that it would be fun to be a part of the group of strangers watching people get pummeled. Details to follow.

Anna : Gym, gym, gym
Boxing canceled last night because Paul was sick and so this morning I made it to yoga for the second time since we got back from holiday ... are these two incidents related? Yoga was good, I'm glad I went and will try to go again!
